Installation seems simple until you start looking at the substrate.
A new floor or bathroom covering can look the same as soon as it is finished: clean tile, new grout, fresher room. Then, over time, you understand whether there was truly well-planned work underneath.
Tiles that sound hollow, steps between one tile and another, ugly cuts in corners that catch the eye. In installation, a low price is often felt later, not immediately.
That is why, before talking only about square metres, we need to understand what you need: interior floor, bathroom, kitchen, replacing old tiles, installing over an existing floor, stoneware, skirting, laminate or floating floor.
Installation is not just gluing tiles: it is substrate, level, adhesive, cuts, grout lines and the right timing.
I am Valentino and I work directly on MIBI jobs. For installation I prefer following only a few jobs at a time, because substrate, format, cuts and levelling must be checked calmly. If help is needed, I choose it carefully.
I do not take installation jobs designed for large surfaces to finish in a hurry, supermarkets or sites where the only goal is to move many crews forward. I prefer homes, B&Bs, kitchens, bathrooms and small spaces where we first look at the substrate, reason about formats and decide how to achieve a clean result.
Before starting I want you to know what you are buying: whether installing over the existing floor makes sense, whether demolition can be avoided, how much the chosen format matters, which technical materials are needed and which details can change price and timing.
That is why this page does not start directly from a price per square metre. First I explain what really changes installation work, then the calculator gives you an indicative range. If the range fits your budget, it makes sense to move on to photos or an inspection.
The real difference
The problem is not finding someone who installs tiles. It is avoiding an installation done the same way every time, in a rush, without looking at substrate, format and details. Every situation needs the right process: that is the difference between work that only looks finished and work that lasts.
Substrate, flatness, back-buttering, correct adhesive, levelling systems, cuts and grout lines are not minor details. They are the part you often do not see in the fastest quote, but then feel under your feet every day.
I work the other way around: first I clarify substrate, format, demolition, installation, logistics and technical materials. Then we talk about an indicative range and, if aligned, move on to photos or an inspection.
Not all installation jobs require the same level of detail. A simple floor on a ready substrate should not be treated like a refined bathroom, a mosaic, stairs or large-format stoneware.
That is why I use three levels: Base, Standard and Premium. They are not decorative labels: they distinguish a linear installation from more careful work or a complex situation, where format, substrate, cuts and details require more time.

Ready substrate and few cuts
For simple installations on an already ready and perfectly level substrate, normal format, linear room and few cuts. It does not mean rushed: it means proportionate to the job.
Standard
Recommended choice
For interior floors, bathrooms and kitchens where substrate, cuts, grout lines, skirting, technical materials and overall finish need attention.
Premium
Complex details
For large-format stoneware, mosaics, highly finished bathrooms, stairs, walls out of square, many cuts and maximum attention to leveling and steps.
The difference is not only in the price. It is in the time spent checking the substrate, preparing it, verifying level, avoiding voids, managing cuts and choosing the correct adhesive, primer and grout.
This is not rigidity. It is clarity. It is respect on both sides.

Leveling is not immediately visible, but you feel it every day.
When the substrate is not perfectly flat, it is not enough to go fast and hope adhesive solves everything. We need to understand how much can be compensated, when the base needs better preparation and when the format requires more attention.
On larger formats, back-buttering is mandatory and installation needs more calm. In old rooms, crooked walls or irregular corners increase cuts. In refined bathrooms, mosaics and stairs, time is not only in square metres but in details.
Why don’t I start directly with an inspection?
Because in installation, price per square metre alone says little, but budget remains real. The calculator also helps with this: to quickly understand whether you are looking for thoughtful installation or only the lowest possible price. If the range is outside what you expected, it is better to know now. If it fits, writing to me makes sense.
When you send me the estimate on WhatsApp, the message already includes the main details: work type, sqm, skirting, material, format, substrate, demolition, cuts, logistics, timing and free description.
From there I ask for photos or we schedule an inspection. The range guides you; the real check confirms measurements, access, substrate and details.

The work starts before the first tile.
Before installing, I need to understand the real job: the condition of the base, the format you chose, how regular walls and corners are, where cuts pass and whether installation requires primer, levelling or back-buttering.
If a family lives in that room, they are not just looking for "a price per sqm". They are looking for someone they can trust, who respects the home, works tidily and does not force the client to check every minute.

That is why I prefer to clarify the path first, not sell you a flat number right away. I tell you where the installation can remain simple, where more preparation is needed, and where saving today risks making you pay for the problem later. Base, Standard and Premium exist precisely to distinguish these situations.
Small jobs
The smaller or more detailed the job, the more it should be assessed as a package.
A repair, a skirting board, a threshold or an area with many cuts still have minimum times, technical material, preparation, tools and finishing to manage. In these cases it is not only the quantity that matters: what really needs to be done matters.
The same applies to access to the property. A convenient ground floor is not the same as a third floor without a lift or difficult access in a historic centre. With tile work there are tiles, adhesive, buckets, tile cutters, tools and sometimes debris: logistics matter.
The calculator also takes this into account, because a useful estimate must at least resemble reality.
Materials, formats and substrate change the job.
The client buys the floor or wall tiles, preferably with a reasoned choice. But adhesive, primer, grout, leveling compounds, leveling systems and profiles cannot be improvised: they must be chosen based on substrate, format and environment.
Square metres help orientation, but they do not tell the whole story: a simple room is not a bathroom with many cuts, a mosaic, stairs or 60x120 stoneware to install carefully.
That is why the calculator asks for more details: not to complicate your life, but to avoid the easy promise that changes as soon as the real job is seen.
The calculator does not sell tiles or flooring. It helps you orient yourself around installation and the work needed. Technical installation materials are defined beforehand or accounted for separately, because using the wrong products to save money can compromise the result.
If you are only looking for the cheapest possible installation, it is better to understand that first.
Tiles are precision work: substrate, format, cuts and levelling change timing and responsibility. If the range feels far from your budget, it is perfectly fine to stop here.
